OCSEF has made a multi-year outreach commitment to the Placentia-Yorba Linda School District to build science fair programs in district middle- and high schools. The program is supported by a grant from the Allergan Foundation and facilitated by Kevin Warner, an Allergan scientist.
OCSEF was the co-sponsor of the Woodsboro Family Science Night last October along with the Woodsboro faculty and parents' association. The event was "standing room only" in the multi-purpose room. OC Science, a group of high school students affiliated with OCSEF, conducted four, hands-on workshops during the evening, while OCSEF Board members met with parents to talk about their role in the science fair process. OCSEF also provided judges for the Woodsboro School Science Fair Judging Event.
The Kraemer Middle School science fair program was conducted during school hours as an optional opportunity. An OCSEF Board Member met with students two to three times a month to guide them along in the process. Two students, Brian Joshua and Tytan Chau, developed a project to study the relationship of the size of a rubber band and the amount of weight it could support.
