Outreach

Current Outreach Programs:

Academy 101: The Academy 101 workshop is an introductory course for students (grades 6-12) to learn how to conduct a science or engineering fair project. This FREE virtual workshop is a series of Saturday sessions designed for students with no prior science/engineering fair experience. Click HERE for information about the 2024 Academy workshop.

Ask a Scientist/Engineer: The Ask a Scientist/Engineer program is an opportunity for students, grades 6-12, to ask questions and receive guidance from a scientist or engineer about their project. These are informal Saturday sessions for students who plan to complete a project in science, engineering, math or computer science for the Orange County Science & Engineering Fair. Click HERE for information about the Ask a Scientist/Engineer sessions.

Coding Workshop: The summer Coding Workshop is a series of Saturday sessions designed for middle school students. Our high school Student Ambassadors teach students the basics of Python coding and provide additional resources. They also share inspiration and advice on how to use coding as part of a science fair project.

High School Conference: The annual OCSEF–Chapman High School Research Conference is a unique enrichment opportunity focused on STEM careers for Orange County high school students that participated in our fair this year. Invited high school students share their science fair projects and related experiences while engaging with Chapman undergraduate senior students and their professors in an informal, noncompetitive campus setting.

Science Fair Expo at Discovery Cube: OCSEF held a Science Fair Expo at the Discovery Cube on Saturday, September 21st for 6-12th grade students and their families. Board members and high school Student Ambassadors were on hand to talk with students about the exhibits and ideas for their own science & engineering fair projects.

Student Ambassadors: A new program for OCSEF, the Student Ambassadors are high school students who have previously participated in the Orange County Science & Engineering Fair. The Ambassadors volunteer at in-person events, create social media posts, and provide mentoring to fellow students.
