The objective of this video is to help you use statistics in your science fair project for the 2025 Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (OCSEF). It uses a sample science project that follows the instructions in the OCSEF slide template for science projects. The results slide in the OCSEF template includes a graph of the data you collected and a clear description of the statistical procedure used to test your null hypothesis and the results of that test. The video explains how these statistical results depend on your hypothesis, experimental procedure and the data collected.
This video shows what statistical details to include in your science fair project results slides. For help with how to perform specific statistical tests, please see the online Statistics Resources Page for links to online resources useful for including statistics in your science project. This page includes links to slide decks for this video, a sample science project, and the OCSEF slide template for science projects. The resources page also includes links for how to set up a data sheet/spreadsheet, how to select the appropriate statistical test given your null hypothesis, experimental procedure and collected data as well as how to actually calculate the selected statistical test. The resources page will be updated with new links such as additional videos in this Science Fair Statistics series!
We encourage you to share this video and these resources with your mentor, science teacher, statistics teacher, and anyone else who may be assisting you with your project.
