Special Award Spotlight: The Association of Women in Water, Energy, and Environment

In January, OCSEF announced 22 special awards to be given at the 66th Annual Orange County Science & Engineering Fair by donors and organizations that promote and advocate STEM excellence. The Association of Women in Water, Energy, and Environment (AWWEE) Award was given to Irvine High School student Monica Pal in 2020, and we are very grateful for the return of the AWWEE to the fair this year as well.

The Association of Women in Water, Energy, and Environment was established in 2007 as a non-profit organization that is dedicated to advancing women’s educational advancement.

AWWEE achieves its mission by providing multiple venues for learning, sharing, and growth. AWWEE’s educational events expand knowledge, build leadership skills, and showcase women’s success in the fields.  Most importantly, they serve as touch points for members to make valuable new connections, creating a sense of community within the organization.

Though it provides industry-related educational events and professional development workshops, as well as an annual mentoring program, AWWEE is so much more than events. It’s a dynamic and diverse community for women working in traditionally male-dominated fields.

The organization fosters a community dedicated to advancing all women in the fields of water, energy & the environment. AWWEE is continually growing and offering its members new services, educational opportunities, and an expanding network of connections. Members may apply to be paired with a mentor or mentee for a year-long engagement through AWWEE’s annual mentoring program, The Exchange. Members have exclusive access to special events with limited capacity.  Members have early registration access to conferences and other high-demand events. Members have access to a growing catalog of on-demand webinar recordings and past event materials.

“AWWEE is an amazing group of women who are so supportive and understanding,” says Allison Bially, Business Development Director at Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, inc (AESC). “We are all really here to boost each other up – it’s something I haven’t experienced in any other organization. I”m always welcome and accepted.”
